We are proud to be offering this natural processed Rwandan coffee from the Kinini Coffee Cooperative.
From 48 members (85% women), this collaboration of farms produces exquisite coffee – and it isn’t just coffee that this village does well. Jacquie Turner and Malcom Clear sought to invigorate this community after the genocide, aiding in constructing a school. And after that school was built, they realized that these children didn’t just need a school. They needed a community. So they got to work, helping to build a pharmacy, a credit institution and the ability for this village to have coffee farms.
After the farms were constructed and allocated to farmers, the farmers were given training on how to cultivate the lands and produce cherries. A washing station was also built in the village – and all this investment was given to the farmers with no expectations other than to bring the crop to the washing station after the crop had been harvested. They would be paid, and the coffee would be exported for the world to enjoy.
This incentivized the new farmers to diligently grow the cherries so well that in their first production year, the cooperative produced an 87 point coffee.
